Harry Potter House Scarves
Since this is where my shop began, it only seems fitting that this is also where my blog begins. This pattern is pretty simple and straight-forward done in a single rib pattern. Gauge isn’t very important when it comes to scarves. You can use any type of yarn you like and the appropriate needle size. I like the colors of Yarn Bee Soft Secret. I found that with this yarn, gauge I get with size 5 needles is much neater than size 8 needles.
Enjoy this free pattern, and feel free to share with me pictures of your completed projects if you decide to use this pattern.
House Scarf Pattern

Yarn: Medium weight yarn in 2 colors depending on house (1 skein each). I used Yarn Bee Soft Secret Yarn
Gryffindor (MC: Red CC: Gold)
Slytherin (MC: Green CC: Silver)
Ravenclaw (MC: Blue CC: Bronze)
Hufflepuff (MC: Yellow CC: Black)
Needles: Size 5
Crochet Hook for tassels
Pattern
Using MC, Cast on 50 stitches
Stripe 1
Row 1-20: K1, P1 across
Stripe 2
Switch to CC
Row 1-20: K1, P1, across
Repeat the pattern alternating colors of stripes until there are 10 stripes of the MC and 9 stripes of the CC
Bind off loosely.
Weave in yarn ends.
For tassels
Wrap yarn around cardboard or book about 4 inches in width until you have wrapped the MC 28 times. Try not to overlap the yarn when wrapping. Cut along only one side of cardboard or book. You should have 28 strand of yarn in the MC. Do this with the CC so you have 24 strands of yarn.
To attach tassels: Group 4 strands of your MC yarn in a bundle trying to get the ends even. Fold the bundle in half around the crochet hook making a loop. Insert the crochet hook into the end of the scarf under one stitch going from one side of the work to the other. On the other side of the work, catch the bundle of yarn with the crochet hook and pull through the stitch and loop, making a tassel. Pull the yarn tight.
Evenly attach 7 tassels of MC and 6 tassels of CC along one end of scarf using the crochet hook and alternating colors beginning and ending with MC.
Do the same for the other end of the scarf.
After both ends are finished, trim the tassels so they are even on both sides.
Note
To decrease the number of yarn ends to weave in, you can take the yarn you are not currently working and run it up the sides as you knit your rows.
